KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said that it was a crime to forcibly change anyone’s religion, adding that that no religious discrimination would be allowed in Pakistan.
The prime minister was addressing a ceremony to celebrate Holi in Karachi. While addressing the ceremony, he said, “The messengers spread the religion not by force,” he said, adding, “We need to turn this world into heaven.”
Commenting on the law and order in Karachi, he said if there is any contention in Karachi, it is between the forces of peace and conflict.
He said that people were free to go to their places of worship.
The premier said that some elements tried to weaken Pakistan by creating religious discord, although their attempts had proved futile.
Furthermore, Nawaz Sharif also promised Karachiites that he would not rest till peace is restored in the city.
Nawaz had arrived in Karachi on Tuesday to chair a high-level meeting on security and development projects in the metropolis. Several Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders were in attendance at the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, he assured that the work on the circular railway would resume soon and that it would become part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
He said that the federal government would give 50 percent of the funds for the K4 project to Sindh. The K4 project is related to the distribution of water.
Moreover, the premier expressed concern over the garbage-strewn streets of the metropolis.
He observed that if development in the city had carried on at the same pace as it was in the 70s, Pakistan would have flourished.
