KARACHI: Every year SSGC embarks upon a full throttle ‘Winter Media Safety Campaign’ to create basic awareness in handling the gas appliances especially gas heaters with a focus to eliminate the circumstances that lead to loss of precious human lives. Through this media campaign that is executed both through above the line (ATL) and below the line (BTL) activities; people of Baluchistan are educated on use of managing heating appliances specially during sleeping time.
In this regards, during the first event of this campaign, senior SSGC officials and eminent religious scholars gathered at a ‘Ulema Conference’ held at Quetta Press Club to dilate on the consequences of negligence in handling gas appliances and also to talk upon the nuisance of ‘gas theft’. During the course of the conference the eminent Ulemas of Pakistan reiterated to avoid gas theft as it is against the basic Islamic beliefs and education. These included Molana Abdul Rahim Rahimi, Molana Anwar ul Haq, Molana Syed Muhibullah Agha, Hafiz Muhammad Mazhar Liaquat, Haji Abdul Ghafoor Kakar, Professor Muhammad Arshad Yameen and others who said that rough and misuse of natural resources is also against the spirit of our religion. They opined that Alhamdulilah we are Muslims and Quran is our rahber that teaches us to keep away from acts of theft and misuse of any kind of resources.
In another event, this time with media fraternity of Balochistan at Hotel Serene Quetta, the Company hosted a sumptuous dinner in their honour. SSGC’s management represented by Acting Senior General Manger (D-North) Nisar Ahmed Shaikh, Acting General Manager (Balochistan) Agha Muhammad Baloch and AGM Corporate Communications Shahbaz Islam addressed the media persons.
They briefed the media about the importance of this ‘Winter Safety Campaign’ and urged them to propagate the highly important precautionary messages through their newspapers, magazines, television and radio channels for saving the human lives.
Addressing this august gathering, ASGM (D-N) Nisar A. Sheikh said that like every year SSGC is commencing its ‘Winter Safety Awareness Campaign’ from Quetta. He said that reports of casualties in yesteryears wereo higher than other parts of our franchise area. This is why we always begin our drive of Winter Safety Awareness from Quetta. He also said that SSGC through its awareness campaign communicates vital message to its customers for keeping them safe. Mr. Shaikh further said that over the years through the support of Ulemas and media we have been successful in reducing human casualties and informed that Alhamdulilah this year no death has been reported due to gas related incidents. He also pointed out another important issue that of gas theft that not only creates additional burden but also goes as waste which is the loss of natural resource. SSGC is striving hard to curb this nuisance by deploying different means and efforts, he informed.
Head of Corporate Communications Shahbaz Islam said that gas is the biggest source of the country which constitutes major part of national energy mix. He said that we strive to reach the people through media to secure the lives of people because in contrary to other parts of our franchise area, people of Balochistan are hit severely with the cold wave therefore they use different kind of appliances of heating to keep themselves warm. Mr. Islam said that heating appliances specially gas heaters should use carefully during the night time as media reports that most of the casualties occur due to mere negligence.
While addressing the gathering Acting General Manager Balochistan Region Agha Muhammad Baloch said that for SSGC, life of a common person is the priority and this is why the company stresses on saving human lives through its media awareness campaign. He promised that his team will continue to perform their duties in this regards and will ensure that there shall not be a single casualty in the winter season.
It may be noted that in every winter season loss of human lives is reported in Balochistan due to negligence in use of gas appliances for heating purposes, such as gas heaters.
