KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) granted Dr Asim Hussain bail on Tuesday in a case relating to the alleged treatment of terrorists at his hospital.
The bail applications of Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Rauf Siddiqui, Pak Sarzameen Party’s (PSP) Anis Kaimkhani and Usman Moazzam were also approved. However, the court ordered that they would not leave the country. The imprisoned Karachi’s Mayor and Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader (MQM) Waseem Akhtar and Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Abdul Qadir Patel were also accused in the same case. Conversely, they had not requested bail.
Dr Asim was booked on the complaint of Rangers for allegedly treating and harbouring suspected terrorists and militants at the North Nazimabad and Clifton branches of his hospital at the request of some MQM and PPP leaders.
Dr Asim – the chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission – had been picked up by the paramilitary force of Rangers on Aug 26 last year.
