KARACHI: A Special Security Unit (SSU) commando who had been doing security duty at the State Guest House nowadays was gunned down in the Kareemabad area of Karachi on Tuesday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Muqaddas Haider said that unknown motorcyclists fired three bullets at SSU commando Zahid Jaffri, 31, at the Kareemabad Bridge when he was on his way to home after performing his duty. He was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (West) Feroz Shah, Jaffri was deployed at the State Guest House where President Mamnoon Hussain would stay during his visit to Karachi. Haider said that Jaffri might have been targeted. The police have gathered evidence from the crime scene and started investigation.
Funeral prayers for Jaffri were offered at the SSU Headquarters in Karachi on Tuesday.
Inspector General of Sindh Police A.D. Khawaja, Additional IGP Karachi Mushtaque Mehar, DIGP West Feroz Shah, DIGP CIA Abdul Khalique Shaikh and AIGP Security Maqsood Ahmed attended the funeral prayers for Jaffri. Separately, Arshad, 23, was injured when he came under gunfire near Sherpao Colony in Landhi. Tanveer, 25, was shot injured by unknown men near Naz Plaza on MA Jinnah Road.
