ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Friday refused to form a judicial commission to investigate allegations leveled against the prime minister and his family by the Panama Papers, a private TV channel reported.
Responding to the letter in which the government had asked for a judicial commission, he said that no reply can be given to this letter unless the terms of references (ToRs) for the commission were agreed upon with the names who are to be probed.
In a letter to the Ministry of Law, he explained his decision, saying a legislation needs to be done before the formation of a commission as it cannot be formed on the current ToRs. On April 22, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said that a letter has been written to the chief justice to investigate the Panama leaks.
